Chevrolet Volt called back over battery-fire issues

Background: Problems with the Volt’s Lithium-Ion battery surfaced in the fall on separate fronts, thanks to two garage fires and results of a federal crash test:

The National Highway Safety Transportation Administration launched an investigation and GM said it was actively re-engineering the Volt for better battery safety. Jan. 5, the company announced the fixes:

The fixes will include:
+Strengthening an existing portion of the Volt’s vehicle safety structure to further protect the battery pack in a severe side collision.
+Adding a sensor in the reservoir of the battery coolant system to monitor coolant levels (pictured below).
+Adding a tamper-resistant bracket to the top of the battery coolant reservoir to help prevent potential coolant overfill. -
