Check out our upcoming Webinar

Fellow editor John Dodge and I will be appearing on a Webinar a week from today (June 9) to discuss social media trends. John’s out on his own now after running Design News for several years at Reed. He writes about net PC trends at The Dodge Retort.

Steve Paul, a onetime colleague of mine at CMP now running OnTarget Marketing, is behind the program. He’s seeing what a lot of other people are seeing–there’s a lot of noise (image, right) about social media but people are still confused, overwhelmed, disappointed, coming up to speed or all of the above.
We’ll try to make some sense out of it, at least through the lens of our experiences.

It’s certainly a varied landscape: I’ve seen and worked with enormous companies that evolved quite gracefully into social media; but other enormous companies haven’t. I’ve seen small, theoretically nimble companies stumble around in the dark.

In recent days I’ve had conversations with marketers and publishers in the electronics B:B space who still don’t see the ROI or the advertising upside. Those conversations crop back up every time I hear the media refer to onetime GM CEO Alfred P. Sloan’s intonation: Make business decisions based on facts.
No one has the “right” answer; everyone today is driving down a road that has more bends than straight-aways. So we’ll start the conversation, and you get a chance throughout to chime in.

I look forward to the back-and-forth! It promises to be fun for the whole family. To register, please click here.

I’ll have to check out the archives, but you folks really ought to repeat this in non-evening hours. At first, I thought the time listed was a typo.
