More moves at EE Times

The churn continues at the electronics industry’s leading publication, EE Times. Editor-in-Chief Junko Yoshida is moving out of the EIC’s seat to focus on international coverage.
In an email she sent me, she wrote:

I am moving away from the desk in Manhasset in order to concentrate on international reporting with an eventual focus on technology/business development in China. I will also retain my connections in the United States, Europe and Japan, as well as keeping a constant eye on consumer electronics. It’s been great being a big shot editor, but it’s a lot more fun to get back to the real business of reporting.

Times Publisher David Blaza, in a staff memo, said the move is not performance-based, and he praised Junko’s stewardship in the past year. My take is pretty simple: She’s one of the greatest reporters I’ve ever worked with, so to have her back on the front line is huge for the industry.
Blaza’s actively looking for a new EIC, but frankly you could resurrect William Randolph Hearst and it might not help. Marketing (the guys and gals who pay the bills in B:B) is stuck in the headlights (more on this in a later post).
They’re shifting money out of print (where ROI has ALWAYS been fuzzy) to a medium (the Internet) that’s just as fuzzy. The audience in North America is embracing the Web in certain ways but continues to re-subscribe to print at remarkably high rates. Google may get the last click, but you’ll never, ever be able to tell what caused that click–what form of marketing really cemented the brand in the customer’s eyes. Banner? Print ad? Billboard? Radio? Email?
It’s gotta be integrated.

Meanwhile, the lifeblood of electronics-industry innovation–information–is suffering as people keep trying to see what sticks.
