Roger Clemens takes more heat

In December with the release of the Mitchell Report on steroid use in baseball, I posited that Roger Clemens would get far more lenient treatment in the media than legendary bad boy Barry Bonds. Well, happily, I may be wrong. Gene Wojciechowski posted a scathing piece on Clemens logic that’s worth reading. Among the points, Clemens (right, lying down in happier times) laments he’s not getting any benefit of the doubt given his years in baseball.
“He got more than the benefit of the doubt. He probably got a free pass as we piled on Barry Bonds for essentially the same thing.”
It’s good to see the needle not really moving yet when contemporary journalists, the most likely to take umbrage over the steroid era, still rank tainted players high. Bonds’ 2001 season is ranked the seventh greatest in the history of sports. And among baseball seasons, Bonds’ 2001 and 2002 performances rank #1 and #3 all time, according to Rob Neyer. (For some strange reason Neyer fails to rank any of the prodigious drinking seasons that Grover Cleveland Alexander had, but hey, you can’t have everything).
And in related news, next week’s congressional hearing on steroids got bumped to Feb. 13.

Maybe someone should test Clemens wife for steroids.

too funny – this is the photo from SI for which clemens had McNamee inject his wife with HGH.
