While steroid use was essentially outlawed by Major League Baseball as early as 1984, the players union and arbiters consistently blocked any application of the ban. When Selig tried to put it in again in 1994, this time specifically banning the substance, the players union again stopped it.<br/><br/>Sounds to me like the players union needs some direct investigation. Improvements in performance from steroids can be directly beneficial in strength sports, like football, but not in coordination sports, like baseball. The benefit a baseball player gets from these drugs is the ability to avoid and come back from injury faster. I think the Mitchell study is proving that contention.<br/><br/>Most of the names on the Mitchell report are virtually anonymous players who seem to stick around.
