On the new look

Posted on | December 9, 2007 | No Comments

I’ve been itching to break out of the Blogger template form for some time. I’ve toyed with a few downloaded free templates but never had the time to play around with them to get it right.
I did this past week. I downloaded a fine template from Gecko and Fly and set about to customize it. As with most things, it wasn’t an easy process. I had to start a Photobucket account so I could upload a stylized picture as the background. I couldn’t find our copy of Photoshop Elements, so I initially used a lousy Word photo editor to get the header in there. I went to my favorite font site, Dafont.com to download the “Death Font” for Greeley’s Ghost. Tonight I found the Elements software so I could better stylize the headline.
I spent hours earlier this week trying to get things to look right because they didn’t initially, as Christian Fahlen was quick to point out. Hey, I was anxious to launch, what can I say? So I leaned on my old friend Kerri Hicks who seems to know a lot about a lot and she helped fix the code from 3,000 miles away. I have work to do still, but it’s a start.
Some day (Open social or otherwise), we’re all going to be able to drag and drop elements into an environment and customize our pages, whether they’re blog-centric, social-networking centric or otherwise. Until then, we still have to dick around with code, but it’s a lot easier than it used to be.

Nice new design Brian. I’m afraid you have too much time on your hands though. (Mike Spataro)
