Another Trib publisher quits
Posted on | March 20, 2007 | No Comments

A second publisher at a major Tribune Co. property resigned suddenly, after six months on the job. Rondra Matthews, publisher of the Baltimore Sun, wants to spend more time with her 77-year-old mother, something that those of us who’ve had to balance work and elder care appreciate. She will be replaced by Timothy Ryan, a Chicago Tribune vice president, who was formerly an executive at The Sun for five years. Ryan has been called a “news junkie,” which helps in the media business.
Last year, Jeffrey Johnson quit as publisher of the Los Angeles Times in a feud with Tribune Co. managers. He recently signed on with Ron Burkle’s investment firm Yucaipa, which bid for the Tribune Co. last year.
